On February 14, 2025, the government amended and gazetted subsidiary legislation to include etomidate (commonly known as "space oil drug") as a controlled dangerous drug under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance (Cap. 134).

Under the strict control of the DDO,
- Possession and consumption of these substances in contravention of the DDO will be subject to a maximum penalty of seven years' imprisonment and a fine of $1 million.
- Trafficking and illicit manufacturing of these substances are liable to a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
The Education Bureau has uploaded the Narcotics Division's "space oil drug" promotional videos and special features to the "Smart Parent Net" one-stop parent education website. Parents can learn more about the harmful effects of "space oil drug", raise their children's awareness of drug dangers, and help them refuse and stay away from drugs.
The school will continue to use various channels to ensure students clearly understand the harmful effects of "space oil drug". Related information will also be uploaded to the G21 webpage. We hope that close home-school cooperation can reduce students' exposure to various risks.
